HomeworkThere will not be any formally assigned homework, but students should always practice reading at home and can practice their word wall words, if you want something formal like homework. Occasionally, students who are not completing assignments in class might need to finish things at home. Rather than taking up evening time with homework, I ask that you spend your evenings together doing things such as: eating dinner as a family and engaging in conversation, reading together, playing together and getting your child to bed early.

Back and Forth Books
Please read and sign (initial) your child's Back and Forth book daily. This book is a communication tool to keep you informed about our classroom. You can also use this book to send me a message. Please remind your child to show me any messages in the morning, otherwise I might not see them until the end of the day. You can also send me messages by email.

Reading
It is hoped that children will read 300 minutes or more each month. This can be a combination of children reading books at their levels and listening to books being read to them. Those who wish to record their reading minutes can do so on the monthly recording page that goes home. Minutes can then be totaled and sent back at the beginning of the next month. As an incentive, there will be a small reward for reading 300+ minutes each month.

Spelling
Attached is a list of grade 2 high frequency words that students should know how to read and learn how to spell over the year. In class, we will practice these words and others while looking at spelling patterns. These words are on display in the classroom and should be looked at to help with spelling while writing. There will not be any formal spelling quizzes, but occasionally there might be a "pop quiz" to see how students are doing with the spelling patterns.
